GENERAL SUMMARY: Senior leadership role for Global Sourcing and Product Development unit and a member of the Senior Management Team of DXLG. The position sets and oversees the global sourcing strategy and vision for the technical, sourcing, production and development functions of the company's private label products and brands. The position is responsible for the talent strategy and people development for the Product Development and Global Sourcing Unit. Builds strong relationships with Merchandising, Planning & Allocation, Finance and Logistics to formulate and execute high-level sourcing strategies; define, direct and drive key sourcing initiatives; outline the allocation of resources; and will liaise and collaborate with our trading agents and factories to ensure the timely delivery of quality, profitable goods. Leads and directs all costs and payment term negotiations with trading partners and vendors to maximize the company's profit margin. Provides leadership and coaching to team to drive innovation and to identify opportunities in building the business. Coaches and mentors Buyers and Global Sourcing & Product Development associates on technical, sourcing, production and development to ensure consistent execution of each program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sets and oversees the vision and strategy for Global Sourcing & Product Development through all stages of the product development life cycle - from development to deliveries of merchandise. Manages the Sourcing team on time and action calendars and reviews workflow to ensure timelines are met.
  • Develops a strategy for the sourcing team in providing sourcing and global business economics trends. Reviews vendor score cards, costing matrix, labor wage updates, raw material costs and trends, researches and analyzes cost structures to recommend and execute the new season's strategy. Sets reporting and working standards to ensure that efficiencies are being met and information is circulated and shared. Sets goals and financial objectives for the department.
  • Provides consistent guidance, training and direction to all direct reports. Conducts performance evaluations through ongoing feedback and documentation. Motivates teams and provides leadership to manage the business
  • Maintains and develops supplier and agent relationships
  • Facilitates analysis of ongoing operations and identify opportunities for improvement to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • Recommends best-in-class sourcing strategies and innovative programs that optimizes our processes by leveraging global efficiencies in raw materials and other assets; maintains advantageous relationships with key vendors and maximizes speed to market.
  • Provides information on market trends such as costing, raw material availability, labor wage trends, factory capacities and foreign countries trade policies & opportunities.
  • Drives development of key initiatives to maximize margins, and minimize costs, including commitments to raw materials and production space, and collaborating with factories and agents on conservation and efficiency. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong track record of 10-15 years experience in apparel sourcing in Asia with a minimum of 5 years at managerial level
  • Direct experience in managing the sourcing program for a US retailer in multiple product categories
  • Creative, technically capable, extensive knowledge of garment manufacturing, including construction, fabrication, trim and print techniques; strong connections with garment manufacturers and agents in Southeast Asia.
  • Financially proficient with experience strategically manage costing and gross margins.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.

SKILLS:

  • Proven strong leadership, influencing, negotiation and relationship building skills
  • Knowledge of apparel manufacturing and product development industry trends, including overseas experience
  • Developed fashion sense for clothing design and construction
  • Strong knowledge of production, sourcing and design industry
  • Knowledge of international logistics, customs procedures and government regulations
  • Travel internationally to different countries, vendors and agents. Understand and respect other cultures and practices
  • Persuasive, articulate and effective communicator; has superior influencing, problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Team-oriented, collaborative, and able to build, manage and motivate
  • Self-motivated, Pro-active, results-driven, and able to multi-task to meet deadlines; highly detail-oriented and meticulous.

ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Travel to factories within Southeast Asia and other countries when necessary.
